APFS for Windows – Supported Volumes

Here’s a list of supported technologies in APFS for Windows:

Read/Write

Basic APFS volume (located on single disk)

How to check:

1. Launch Terminal utility
2. Type: diskutil apfs list
   
3. Check how many Physical Volumes are included in APFS Volume Group
4. One Physical volume present
   
   

Read Only

Basic FileVault-encrypted APFS volume

How to check:

1. Launch Terminal utility
2. Type: diskutil apfs list
   
3. FileVault: Yes present.
   
   

APFS volume with Snapshots

How to check:

1. Launch Terminal utility
2. Type: tmutil listlocalsnapshots /
   
3. Snapshots present.
   
   

Not Supported

APFS volume located on Fusion Drive

How to check:

1. Launch Terminal utility
2. Type: diskutil apfs list
3. Check how many Physical Volumes are included in APFS Volume Group
4. More than one Physical volume present.

APFS volume with macOS connected to Mac with T2 chip

How to check:

1. Launch Terminal utility
2. Type: diskutil apfs list
   
3. FileVault: No (Encrypted at rest) present.
