[How To] Gather Dump File in Windows

Sometimes we experience very difficult problems which need the deep analyze of the disk. In these cases support engineers could ask the user to provide the DUMP file – this is metadata content of the particular partition on the disk (the problematic one).

Next is the instruction how to use this FSDump utility.

1. Download this utility.
2. Save it to the C:| root directory.
3. Run command prompt as administrator.
4. Type the following commands to run the utility:

cd/

(this line will transfer you to work in C:| directory)

fsdump.exe

(this line runs utility)

fsdump *: > dump_disk*

(replace * with the necessary partitions letter)

For example fsdump D: > dump

In case drive letter was not assigned to the volume, run Windows Disk Management (Start –> Run… diskmgmt.msc). Find the volume in the list below: remember its disk number and partition number (as shown in the screnshot: Disk number is 0, and partition number is 2):

Use the following command in CMD:

fsdump \\?\HarddiskXPartitionY > dump_diskXpartitionY

(replace X and Y with disk number and partition number).

5. After the process succeed you’ll get a message about finishing.

6. Send the gathered dump file to the Paragon Support Team.
